Imagine gliding elegantly over the water with only a one horse-power drive! It seems incredible, but the idea has been tested and turned into a real vehicle in a project of the Technical Universities of Wädenswil and Rapperswil. The result is called gf_09, a one-man, ultra-light electrically-driven hydrofoil. It easily overtakes racing skiff and ferry alike, and produces neither wave nor noise nor stink. Named in memory of project initiator Georg Furger, who has since died, gf_09 is for the moment only a prototype, but its performance is so stunning that we are already contemplating further development towards a version ready for mass production.
StauffacherBenz has been part of the project since its inception, from the overall technical and functional concept through clarifying the user’s needs and the ergonomics right to the shape and colour schemes of the little boat’s shell.
