On behalf of Domoterra - the group responsible for public relations for the Association of the Swiss Brick Industry (Verband Schweizerische Ziegelindustrie VSZ) - StauffacherBenz has developed a special exhibit entitled «Brick: familiar yet unknown» to be put on display at Swissbau07.
«Brick: familiar yet unknown» creates a complex and poetic story from the dry and somewhat lacklustre building material that is brick. Domoterra’s aims are not to convey structural information, but simply to awaken interest in brick as a building material, and to boost its appeal. The unusual perspectives on show are both surprising and fascinating. Within a context defined by technical and economical issues, visitors can meet up on this island of peace and poetry.
The centre of the stand is dominated by a chandelier made of sliced bricks, which can be seen from across the exhibition hall. Under the chandelier is a bar area, a book counter and a small lounge. On the outer edges of the stand, the lounge area is screened off by three brick walls which were developed by the assistant professorship for architecture and digital fabrication at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Zurich (ETH Zürich), and which were built by a robot. On the other side of the stand, twelve pillars carry large photographs illustrating the positive properties of brick as a building material. For example, terms such as breathable, heat-insulating, economical and environmentally-friendly are displayed in an unexpected and witty way, which appeals to both professionals and laypersons alike.
In collaboration with Markus Dobrew (Domoterra).
